Bathroom Remodel - General Contractor or Bath Store? Which is better?

I just purchased a house and need to do a full bathroom remodel of a 9×6 family bathroom. Does anyone have any opinions or advice on which is the better deal with regards to time and money … A general contractor/Home Depot or one of those bathroom showrooms which claim to be a one stop shop? I am looking for a pretty standard remodel - tile floor, double vanity sinks, tiled bath and shower combo area.

For the money, Home Depot, Lowe’s or Menard’s will be a “one stop shop” for you. We have remodeled 2 bathrooms in our house and are getting ready to add a 1/2 bath too. They will have everything you will need(most contractors buy from the stores listed above, and hike price to you on the their bill). As long as you can do the work yourself, that is the route I’d take. After remodeling every room in our house ourselves, we have saved nearly $20,000 by doing it ourselves.

You’ll save a lot of money doing the shopping yourself and just hiring someone to install it for you.

You may wish to do a bit of resarch first…home depot generally have great staff, however, not sure if they have a full knowledge base - I’d prefer experts in certain areas of my home - or and (sinks)
    Best of luck!

It will be heaps cheaper to buy the fixtures and fittings and arrange the necessary expertise for installation. We have just done our bathroom - ripped everything out, insullated and re gibbed, then tiled and put in new toilet, vanity and bath with shower. Cost was about two thousand cheaper than quotes I got from contractors who do the whole job. Definitely worth the time and hassle!
